I need the latch for the left eagle hitch arm on a VAC. Part # is VT597.

I don't know if Case still stocks the latches but in the event your dealer is cross-ref challenged:

VT597 > A28932 early style.

VT615 > A28942 later style has a different contour in the implement pin area.

Either will work on the VT579 left side claw.

Apparently the contour of VT579 (Hitch) changed at some point. The parts manual I have shows differnt latch depending on the contour of the hitch. The older straight back hitch uses the VT597 latch...the newer hitch with a cut-back notch on the rear surface of the opening uses the VT615

Paul, you could very well be right. The pix is a 1953 VAC left side VT615 latch on a VT579 claw. Perhaps the 4HT means something, do you see that on the earlier claws? Thanks for the correction. Joe

Joe: This is a picture of the old style hitch and latch. Please note it is a right side latch mounted on the left side draft arm...don't ask my tractor has one old and one new hitch and latch (but the old latch is for the wrong side)
My newer profile VT579 doesn't have the extra casting numbers that yours has, so other than looks I don't know how to differentiate old to new.

Thanks, I see the difference now. Since you have both, do you think the older claw could be ground to accept the newer latch w/o the top of the latch contacting the claw top?

Joe: Finally got home (my brother had knee surgery). Looked and measured my two types should be able to grind down the draft arm end of the old style to match the newer style latch
