I was looking at a tractor today and the tag said VAO but it had a narrow front end. It had a low seat and steering wheel. Is this supposed to be an orchard tractor or something else. I haven't found another VAO with a narrow front. All that I have seen were low profile wide fronts. Also What is the difference between a VO and a VAO? Thanks for any and all comments.

That front end is identical to my 1949 VAI. My neighbors 1948 VAO has a frontend real similiar to my VA.

Sounds like someone changed the non-adjustable wide front (NAWF) for a narrow front (NF) sometime in the past. If you buy the tractor and want it to be a NAWF as it came from the factory I will trade you a NAWF setup for your NF.

Where are you located? I am still debating on whether or not to get the tractor. If I do I may be interested. If you want to email me my address is [email protected]. Thanks and have a nice day.

Re: Case VA NA wide front? in reply to mj, 03-06-2005 07:23:03
I would be curious as to what you think the year of your wide front is? Compared the the NA wide front on my '48 there are differences in the front casting, there is extra bracing under the axel, the tie rods are ball joints , not a clevis and pin like mine and the steering rod has a "offet" section in it.

I'll make a bet that the front end in the picture is off a VAI that had a front-end loader on it.

Possible BUT I know of an original '47 VAI that has an un-gusseted axle....maybe the answer is 'lost in time'? As to what year I think mine is?....just don't know.

The information that I have on your questions are as follows, The V series which includes the VO was produced from 1940 to 1942. The VA series which includes the VAO was produced from 1942 to 1955. The V series of tractors were built largely from components purchased from vendors. Like the engine which was built by Continental Motors. There were a total of 511 VO Tractors built. There were a total of 6925 or 6927( some reports say 6925, some say 6927) VAO Tractors built which includes the VAO-15. The VAO-15 was introduced in 1953. Options on the VAO included Orchard crown rear wheel fenders, orchard shield and cowl attachments, rear fender closures; PTO; Belt pulley; Eagle Hitch ; electric start and lights. I find no mention of a VO or VAO with a narrow front end, tricycle, or row crop. The price of a VAO in 1948 was $1113. Some information refers to these tractors as Orchards, others call them vineyards and some call them orchards and vineyards. Whatever, they are called I think it would be great to have one.
