Seems alot of folks have problems with the torque converter and or clutch packs on this machine. I thought I was going through this same problem (low oil pressure and no foward/reverse) but found the folowing problem. I am posting this in case it is useful for others.

I recently did a brake job on the 580ck. That is nice. No more clunking and having the balls get jambed beyond the ramps.

The seal between the torque tube and the transmission has recently become non-functional, allowing fluid to flow between the two compartmetns. When I did the brake jog, I also replaced the outer seal to the transmission, so I drained both the tranny and the torque tube.

I refilled each compartment with 5 gals of Hytran (10 gals total). I though this would be too much because the manual calls for 16 qts (4 gals)each. I started the machine and found low and intermittent clutch pack and torque converted oil pressure. I thought I'd have to drain some oil. However, what I found out was that because the seal is shot and the tractor tilts toward the back, oil from the torque tube was flowing into the tranny case and leaving the torque tube without enough fluid. I ended up having to put in 2 more gals into the torque tube to get the level up onto the dipstick.

Once the level was up enough, I had plenty of torque converter and clutch pressure. At least for now. Hopefully the seal wont break apart and clog the torque filter tube.

Anyway, I hope this might be helpful. I know its not a true fix, but its a stopgap until the tractor really needs to be split.

There is a chance that the seal is not at fault in the 580, Case used the trans casting in the early 580 that was used in the ag line. There was a tube built into the rear casting to bring leakage from a leaky rockshaft piston back to the front without diluting the 90 wt in the rear. In the industrial models w/o rockshaft, the pipe was blocked off with a plastic cap and a spring type hose clamp. Usually these would fall off and oil would transfer front to rear. Remove the shift cover for the 4 speed, on the brake pedal side tucked up in the corner up front you will find this pipe sticking back, should have a cap on it. if no cap, Case supplies a groove pin to drive in to seal it, Check it, its an easy fix if plug is not there, seal failure is uncommon on the trans input shaft but possible. The plug gone is more likely, mEl

Do you know how to externally identify if a tractor has the ag rear casting? Did they have different casting numbers on the two, or was it changed at a certain serial number machine?

Amazing the things you learn on this site. It's great to have such a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. Thanks, mEL, for that info. I'll check it out and see if that's the case. Best regards.
