Hi all I just got home with a 42so and have a few ?.
it is missing starter ,mag and gen.I was wondering if someone could tell me a way to try and turn over motor,it has been sitting for about 40yrs,but oil looks clean plugs look like they would fire.I didn't get hand crank with it and no starter and I can,t drag it because driveway is still covered with ice
5in thick probably for 2 more months.maybe someone can give me directions for size of hand crank end
and maybe I can make a shank to fit ,remove plugs and attempt to turn over.I don,t want to wait for spring to get started.
any help would be nice.

The PTO shaft and belt pulley are 2 more locations you could rig up something to turn over the tractor. Make sure the valve train is free before cranking to avoid bending things...

You can turn the engine (with tractor out of gear)by putting a 3/4 drive ratchet on the nut on the right side of the tractor that holds the belt pulley on. Be careful though, I wouldn't apply too much pressure if the engine is stuck you might break something.

I think I can get you a fabrication drawing for the hand crank. Send me an email message if you are interested. Don't try turning the engine over if the valves are stuck until you have removed the rocker arm assembly. You will bend the push rods. Check out the article archives on theis web site. There are some good articles on freeing stuck engines.
