Read all messages an i am not sure of 400 you are looking at??? First or large on would have 38in tires- other or later small 400 would have 26in tires. Large 400 would easly pull plow you are talking about.

Sounds like you are looking at the big 400 "series" with the 250 plus cubic inch engine? The other later 400 "series" has a 148 cubic inch engine. See if you can find the actual model number (4??) on the serial number tag. Might want to email Don L. and check with him on parts availablity at ([email protected]).

A case 400 was built from 1955 til 1957. The 400 gas motored tractor is a 411, the deisel is a 401 and so forth. In 1958 it became a 400B series tractor. That is a totally different animal. The 400 gas (411) taht you are talking about is actually fairly common. Most parts are still available thru Case. Other than the engine itself, it is completely identical to the deisel version.

Thanks for the info,I like those old cases my SC is ready for an overhaul I think this 400 will be great for my tiller and plowing and brush hogging I'm pretty handy but dont have much money so I hate to get into something I cant afford to keep running would like a bigger unit with a cab for these northern Minnesota winters but thats out of my budget unless I won the lottery!

We pulled 4-14 plow in soil with a lot of clay with no problem, usually in 5th gear unless it was on much of a hill.
