I have a 1963 430 CASE gas ser no 8217702. My manual says it should be positive ground and I found a forum on YTMAG that states the same. The negative battery terminal is ground in my tractor. Should I reverse this, or will it do damage? It has been this way at least 15 years. It starts fine but doesn't seem to charge the battery. Thanks

Scott; The polarity on your tractor is correct. This is a Racine built tractor that uses negative ground. Rock Island tractors all have positive ground. The first number in the serial number is the tipoff. 6 million numbers were built in Rock Island and 8 million numbers were built after production was moved to Racine... Gene

Hello, my SN# starts with 83 It was a negative ground when I bought it. It wasn't charging when I bought it and the bok said it was a posi, so I swithed it to positive ground and had the gen rebuilt and a new regulator still no charging. Also the starter solenoid is making a slight hum and gets very warm when I turn the master switch on. Any ideas? clay

If you still have a generator on it, I would change it back. Just to have it right. If you change it back, you might have to polerize the regulator. (jump across the B and A terminals with a wire)
