I have a 1948 vac with no 3pt. I bought a 1951
vac for the 3 pt. hitch. From what I can see, I
should be able to split the tractors behind
the transmission, swap the rear ends, and install the hyd. pump
in the dummy plate on the timing cover. I was going to leave the flywheel and pump on the 48 vac so I could still use all the factory attachments . The 51 still runs ok nad has good
tires. What would the 51 be worth ?

Here's a page from the VA Service Manual that shows an adapter in use. It appears to be braced differently (and better) than the one from the Parts Manual but both should illustrate that it is feasible and acceptable on a vintage tractor.

Case did make an adapter (shown here) to install the Eagle Hitch rockshaft assembly onto the early casting. I would use 3/8 and 1/2" strap, plate and angle to replicate and would add 2 straps from the front of the flat mounting surface to the tractors' seat mounting bolts.

I think you may have to swap the torque tube to provide access for the hyd lines and if you want the internal return filter. The engine in the '48 has a different cam gear than the '51, I think the '51 cam gear is just wider to accomodate driving the hyd pump but not sure.

Joe-
We've got 2 VAs here (a '47 and a '48) that have had the live pump added and have not shown any problems with the drive.
