The battery is a standard 6V, about the only one the local stores seem to carry, approx. 7" X 9".
They used two batteries on that tray for the optional 12V systems. ROGER

According to Glenn/MN who posts from time to time on this board, in 1956 and 1957 there were 149 Case 300 Round Nose diesels produced. In 1956 and 1957 there were a total of 8,464 Case 311 gas tractors produced. I have come to the conclusion that Case made a one size battery plate for 300 and 311. Since the 300 was a diesel, it needed two 6 volt batteries hooked in series making it a 12 volt to start the tractor. All the 311 gas tractors were 6 volt. When people post on the board asking for 12 volt seal beams, that tells me they have used the conversion kit and have changed them to a 12 volt system. Case made the plate to accomodate two 6 volt batteries for the diesel but now it can hold one 12 volt for those who have converted their system to 12 volt. It can also hold one 6 volt. I'm sure that Case did not plan this, but ultimately what they did is make a universal battery tray. Joe
