I just recieved a 48 DI I need to know what weight of oil to run in the trans. and rearend, What is coming out is just about tar. I wager it is original for the tractor. I konw it is a bad Question but now one around hear has any clue.

Hey Adam: No offense to Paul, but I prefer 85W140. When cold it will flow like an 85, but when warm you'll get the protection of a SAE 140

I won't argue with John it is also a good choice. Intersting how Case had different recommendations. Original manual for my DC specs 90w (of course they didn't have multi-grade in those days..it said that in cold weather you should cut the 90w with 3 qts of kerosene. My VAC original manual calls for straight 140w above 32degrees 90w below...no mention of adding kerosene.
With 28 years in the army and an M37 ..we use GO 90 in everything.
