I see my last posting and follow-ups are back a page or so, so will start a new one.

Well, I split the tractor and found the problem. The housing of the throw-out stud (the ball in the yoke)had broke and was pushed out. This should be an easy fix. Will push the ball cap back in place and have it brazed. (Thanks to you guys, I can even talk intelliently about this).

I'm thinking, while I have it apart I should look at, and if needed, replace the clutch linings. What thickness should they be when new? Also, am thinking I should replace the oil seal in the quill assembly. Is it available? Any precautions when taking the clutch assembly apart? Thanks for your help.

Off the top of my head the quill seal is a CR14256. Shouldn't be but 5 or 6 bucks at your favorite local auto parts store.

Check the clutch shaft for end play. You might need to remove a shim or two from between the quill and the torque tube to take up bearing wear.

I'd replace the throwout bearing while you're in there - ~$35. If you have a hydraulic press you can remove and reinstall yourself.

Right now is also a great time to replace the rear main seal if it is leaking as well.
