hi all I just got home with a new tractor 1940 case
s had to dig out of 5 ft of snow and drag 200ft to trailer with a snow cat,this is my first case.I restored a 1951 allis ca back in 2000 and was looking for a new project.we don't find many old tractors up here(alaska) so I.m very excited!!
could anyone tell me about this machine would it make a good restore?

found sn s0460542 from what I,ve heard this would be 40s but didn't this series start in 41? how do you check motor oil and I will be needing a starter and mag and maybe sleeves I don't know yet.

akmarty, i think the missing digit may be 5 insted of 0 that would make it a 1950, check and make sure and post and i will look up card and post the info for you dctom

That would be a 1942. I think you are missing a digit in the SN. Check again and post to DCTom on this site. He has build cards for many of this vintage and is a great source of info. Can tell when/where it was built and when/where it was shipped.
As far as the oil level... there are 2 plugs on the right side of the oil pan. Remove upper one and some oil should run out if it is at proper level. Lower plug serves same purpose when using "low cost fuel". Some of these tractors had a 2nd fuel tank under the hood just behind the radiator cap. Those had a different manifold too. Build card from DCTom would state this.
There places on this site where you can find parts. Look around and if you don't find what you need or no one else replies I can send some.... just don't want to pass out email addresses of others w/o their consent. Look for Don L on this site for one.

Maybe the model is SO (orchard) and the serial nr is 460542, that might make it 1942 but need another digit . Sorry, I don't any thing about the S series.
