Does anyone have a picture or can they describe the tubular PTO guard for a SC? This is the guard you are supposed to use on the PTO shaft if you are doing hydraulic or motor lift work to protect you against the exposed PTO shaft. I would like to build one but I need details of how it was retained on the tractor. I would assume that nearly all of the original ones were quickly thrown away.

Jim.

I show part number O8794AB and that changes to a A20483. I never checked to see if the number was good or not.

I visited a case friend yesterday and lo and behold he is doing an sc----started to leave and said 'look here I even have this cover'It was the cover you are talking about----It is a cast piece which bolts to the studs which the fan shield mounts to. The tube part which covers the shaft is pressed into this cast.It also has the top link support cast into it, much like the racine 400s.This piece is not for sale but I can get pics----Neale

The original shield was a two piece unit. You may still have the base on your tractor. The picture is of an exact original reproduction wich is available from:

Ted,
The shield I am talking about is a tight fitting cylindrical shield that covered just the PTO shaft. I will post a picture as soon as my photo site starts working again. Deere used a clamshell shield in this location. The purpose was to keep your clothing out of the PTO shaft when no driveline was hooked up.

I am not able to access the tractorshed site to look at your picture? I get a 403 forbidden error, even if I try to access the home page.

Jim

Yup, I know what you are talking about, It looks like a soup can with the ends cut out, not the pto top link, cover as described above. Every farmer I knew took them off and never put them back on. My dad had a NOS (took it off the day the tractor arrived from the dealer in 1951), it hung on the shed wall for 40 years and finally went to the junk yard.

Ted has it figured out. Here is a picture from the manual. I would like to know how they were mounted to the bracket in the back. I assume they clipped on somehow without using tools.
