When I was there visiting I was thinking you had a 1939 DC-3 with a 3 speed transmission. I picked up a 1939 DC-3 this weekend and it had the four speed transmission. I had emailed DCTOM with the serial number 4703371 and I stated it did have a 4 spead transmission and he thought only the D had the 3 speed trany. Guess what I'm getting at, if yours is a DC-3 would you be willing to post the serial for Tom to look up the build card on it? I may also have the wrong tractor with the wrong owner also, it has been awhile.

It is a DC3, and it is a three speed. Tom has checked the SN and he told me that none of the build cards tell if it was built a 3 speed or a 4 speed. The SN is 4302009 on the block. The tag on the rear end was gone. Rear end could be older. That makes it the 1259 th engine made if they started at 750 and there were no R's or L's that fit somewhere in that number sequence. Rumor has it that the first 500 were 3 speeds, but no one knows for sure. To be a 3 speed it would have to be an early 39 for sure. I would imagine that a good share of the 3 speeds had the 4th gear added later. I have only come across a couple with a lower serial number than mine. What date was yours built? DK

DKase,
Tom was going to get back to me on my serial number. I was wonder where the serial number was located at on the 39's, I will have to take a closer look on mine to see if it has a tag on it.. Mine has 36" rubber with split rims, was that original on them? I have pictures posted on tractor forum.com of mine. Will pass on more iformation once Tom gets back to me.

Tag on the toolbox. SN on engine flange. 36, or 38" rims are both OK. Do you have a starter, and the governor drive generator? Lights? Correct seat? Round tube radiator? 5570 head? Cultivator lift? Which mag?
