I think the 1070 starter is bigger, and would work better than the 970 starter. The gear needs to be changed and the 1070 starter will fit in the 1030. First thing to do to speed it up is pitch the 6 volt batteries and get 1 or 2 1000 CCA 12 volt batteries. Mount the batteries as close to the starter as possible and use good sized cables. If you get 2 hook them up in parallel so they operate as 12 volt. Make sure the contacts in the solonoid are making good connections. More voltage from the start position on the key switch helps pull the solonoid in better and makes better connections for faster spinning of the engine. All my diesel tractors (largest is a 2090) have one big 12 volt battery. I have found that the 2nd did not do any good. LOL DK

Hey Dave: I don't think the 70 Series turn over any faster than the 1030. How's the Batt'y Cables & Ends. 2 - 12V - 1000CCA @ 0 degree F Batteries, and New 2/0 Cable should do the job. Big difference between 2 Guage & 2/0.
