430 Polarity

Does a 430 tractor have a negative or positive ground system? I just picked up a 430 and the wiring is very cobbed up and it is not charging. It currently is set up 12V negative ground and I suspect the polarity is wrong. Unfortunately, I have no manual to refer to.

My 411B is 12V positive ground. I wasn't sure if the 430 was the same.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott Goff

On gas tractors before SN 8233766 are pos. ground and diesels before SN 8232882. All newer ones are neg ground.

Hi my 430-440 has a high SN# starting with 83 it came as a negative ground and wouldn't charge so I switched it to a positive because the book said positive ground and had the generator rebuilt and a new regulator I just put it back on and no charging. How hard is it to switch everything back to a negative charge system? Do I just have to reverse the polarity on the regulator again?
