RPM's run high in 3RD and 4TH gear and acts like clutch is slipping. Had the shuttle rebuilt which made very little improvment. I am told now that the torque needs to be replaced. Was also told that it could be rebuilt too. Has anyone had this done?

It sounds like you are on the right track.Generally when one of my converters went bad ,there were a lot of metal shavings in the pan.Make sure you flush the oil cooler when you service the trans and converter. good luck

Im going through a 580 CK now, Went through the shuttle, things were bad Alum drum, O rings, springs in clutch hubs were broke, Going through the converter there was lots of shavings, The big part is the the bushing in the pump drive gear & the carrier assy, They wear & you loose pressure.
The carriers no longer avalible from case. You wouldn't want to that much for it anyway.
I have had these rebuilt.
The shaft that goes through the converter can be bad where the locking oil rings are, Grooves
get wore.
Good parts are hard to find,
I have found that salvage yards sell parts & there good to them, They dont look at them good enouph & Dont know where & what wears & has to be in very good shape to work, They are not a Mechanic.
