Just started to strip the engine down on my '39 D. took the head, radiator, etc off and then removed the timing case. I was greeted with a camshaft gear that has two sets of punch marks on. It was easy enough to see which the factory-punched ones were so i wound the crank round and no way are the marks going to line up. The nearest they get is nine teeth away. this seems an awful lot to me. The odd thing is that even the "home made" marks dont line up! The tracor did run (just) before i started stripping it down. My service manual doesn't give the opening times of the valves in degree's so basically i'm after a bit of advice as to how to get this problem sorted. Any advice would be much appreciated!! Turn Crankshaft to TDC on number one. Remove camshaft gear. Turn camshaft till Ex closes on number four if you keep turning number four intake will start to open. Camshaft should set to be equal between Ex closing and Intake opening. In other words split the overlap on number four cylinder. This will put the number one in firing position
