Every now and then I hear or errors in Erb and Brumbaugh's book: Full Steam Ahead. Much as I love old Case tractors, I have not studied the details enough to discover errors in this book. Would you folks mind pointing out at least some of the most glaring errors? Thanks, Glenn F.

There have been some recent discussions about DCS's (see posts below). Someone said that they aren't listed in the book? But there may not be any production number information on them available anywhere?

Like any book, there will be typos and other minor errors - moreso in larger books such as this one - but probably not of consequence to any but purists - like the "shining chrome Glock" in a recent novel. Overall Excellent book in my opinion. Only significant one I know of is VAC serial numbers and I think Dave Erb published a correction in Old Abe magazine when he came upon a more detailed listing. Unfortunately, once it goes to press, errors will stay until next printing - but if you contact Old Abe magazine, or Erb direct, you can get lots of info on VAC S/N and build dates and some config info that was not known until fairly recently.

L.C. is correct about that picture book's inaccuracies. C's and L's all look the same to those guys. As far as Erb's book and the dates, dctom of this site pointed out to me that build date and model date are not necessarily the same. Like cars, a late 1951 build will be called a 1952 model. (for example). I am not aware of other inaccuracies in Erb's book, except for 500 serial numbers. I have a 1953 500 which does not fall into the range stated. Pretty small stuff, it is agreat book, I am proud to own one. A salute to the authors.

I can't swear as to whats in error but I have been called down before as being wrong when posting info on serial numbers taken straight out of the back of "Full Steam Ahead". I know there has to be errors in there because some of the production numbers just don't add up.

I know theres other books I have that the authors couldn't tell the difference between an L and a C and repeatedly misidentify the photos through out the book. One is so bad that it identifies a photo as a Case C when its obviously an Aliis Chalmers 20-35 or Model E.
