If I'm not mistaken a 400 western is a standard 400 with big fenders and a hand clutch.

Would the Western Special be one that is primarily a puller, that is no 3 Pt., just draw-bar and hand-clutch?

if you are looking for just a plain standard model od 400 you have some choices. Some refer to whats a wheatland style which is a standard with draw bar only, may have hydraulics but no pto.
Case made what they call a 400 diesel, 410 gas, 402 orchard diesel, 412 orchard gas, Western special with rounded fenders and hand clutch(model 400 special diesel) , a 420 industrail diesel and a 425 gas industrail. Then you can get into the B series which has it's own lists.

A Western Special has the same platform and fender style as a 500 Case or a Standard D Case. It comes with either a hand clutch or foot clutch. It also was made in all three fuels. It optioned a PTO, and Hydraulics. It is not setup for a 3-point.
