We had 5 different SC's and never had a weight on the wheels. Front was never a problem in the hills as long as the weight was in the front under the radiator. Uncles came without it and man that thing was terrible to use till we took it apart and put the weight in there. The cast front wheels are very heavy.

My experience has been largely with the DC's. Last summer when I was switching my SC over from a narrow front to a wide front I was surprised to discover the removable weight under the radiator. Was that weight optional? Was it very common? Thanks, Glenn

Glen, every SC we owned (5)had the weight. Of course we bought all ours used but the only one I ever came accross without it was my Uncles and man, it was light on the front. Another uncle had 3 different ones and they all had it. Wish I had his 39 with the center exhaust back. One of the first ones. Brother and I were saying our prayers more than once using Uncle Dons. She came up going up a big hill just pulling a corn binder and he had a big 14 foot hay rack mounted on an old truck fram which he made into a trailer. We made sure the trailer was on behind our DC in our hills. I guess I would say the majority had the weight and if it don't find one!!!!

The only front wheel weights that I know of are the Cast Iron Wheels themselves. About 100 lbs. each without the tires on them.
