When I was about 10 and my brother was 16 Dad's 41' SC would not start after setting out in the winter. It wasn't stuck, but some of the valves were. Anyway, my brother hooked it to his old Mustang so we could pull it to try to start it. When it didn't start at 5 or 10 MPH my bright brother said let's go faster - put it 3rd and when I wave throw out the clutch. KIDS - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! He must have been going about 25 MPH when he waved (we had it out on the road). It barked the tires and the rear-end really skewed: I don't know why it didn't upset. Several bent push-rods were replaced and the head was repaired by the machine shop. My Dad was overjoyed!

Ok, assuming your engine is not stuck, the problem is between the sliding gear shaft and the clutch. You could have it stuck in two gears at the same time. (worn components) It is not a stuck brake because your chain drive directly runs the differential shaft, which runs your brakes. The tractor would not move in neutral if the brakes were stuck, or if the chain was broken or worn to the point of jaming. So, I'd say pull your transmission cover, the one that the steering column is bolted to, and start looking. You probably have bearing, gear or shift fork problem that is causing a gear jam.

Hey! One more thing. If your engine is stuck, and your clutch is good, then with the clutch pulled back (disengaged)the tractor should pull, even if the transmission is in gear. If it won't pull with the clutch disengaged, then the problem is in the transmission. if it does pull then you've got a stuck engine. Clear as mud?? :>)

Hey Fellas: The clutch plate could be froze to the flywheel.

John, you're pretty sharp! I thought of that when I went to bed. If a tractor has been sitting for a long time with the clutch engaged the clutch plate could litteraly be "glued" to the flywheel.

Hey, Dennis, I've got a set I'd give you, if you'd pay to have them shipped from Cambodia, or wait till I get over there. Here is a "dirty little secret". Got a good anvil? Take your time with a good clean level surface and a flat 2# hammer, straighten them out, if they are not kinked, just gentle bends. I did that on some 15 years ago and the tractor still runs fine.
