I have an 580 B w/torque converter, shuttle shift.A year ago it refused to move in either fwd. or reverse.I drained the TC case and replaced new hyd oil. still no movement. The tractor had set idle for about 13 months.Last week I fired it up and it immediately moved forward but still had no reverse until it warmed up.Then after warm up reverse began to operate. Can anyone tell me what has caused this strange operation. In addition there is a sound of screaming noise which is constant until the clutch pedal is depressed at which time the noise stops until pedal is released, then more noise. As the system warms up the noise deminishes to some extent. In addition to this problem I am now unable to steer the tractor after this long period of idleness. If I wind and wind on the steering wheel the wheels may move, but not more than one half inch side to side. Am I correct in assuming that the ram packing has failed in one or both steering cylinders or is there possibly a problem in a directional valve These cylinders do not appear to be repairable.

I have repacked the steering cylinders a year ago in my 580 ck b that is a 1972. Your pump could also be shot for the power steering.

As for the trans, I dont know enough to try and help you there. I let mine warm up and it works both ways.
