I have a '50 LA that I want to completely rewire this spring. I'm going to leave it in it's 6V setup. I don't know if the generator works or not but I figure it needs gone through. Is this something I can do myself or should I just buy a rebuilt one? Can someone tell me the belt size I need for the generator as mine is missing. The generator has the regulator on top and I'm sure it will need some attention also. What's your opinions.

Why are you staying with 6V? For show?
12V and Alt. works so much better.
I remember starting my VAC by hand crank in the winter. Only trouble I have now is breather filling with water (ICE).

Engineer,
I'd rebuild the one you have. Just had my '49 rebuilt last summer. He even painted it. I stayed 6v also. Only needed brushes & bearings. Total was $94.81 in MN. Receipt says brushes & bearings were $12.50 & the Reg was $46. Reg # is 6V VR1407 POS.
Belt was ok. Not sure of the size. Width is 5/8".
Good luck,
Steve
