Last summer I bought a 67 580ck with a power shuttle. It had been setting for years. All the cylinders leaked and the boom wouldnt stay off the ground. I read all the postings on the 580 site and ordered an operators manual and a model 33 backhoe and loader manual from YT. The questions and answers from you guys were invaluable. The machine works now but is slugish to start moving. The clutch oil pressure just barely gets to the green. I have changed all the fluids and filters except #25 the filter under the fuel tank on the right side of the machine. There was no filter or spring, retainer or bolt in the housing. How important is this filter? Could it be part of the low pressure problem and lag in response to throttle?

Hi Joe, I have a '68 580CK with the shuttle. On my machine the torque convertor filter is up front ahead of the radiator, not under the tank. Most of these old machines like to warm up for awhile before they move well. Eventually, a rebuild of the shuttle and convertor will be required. Good luck, Jess

Jess thanks for the response. I found the filter in front of the radiator and changed it. The filter I am concerned about is on top of the clutch, under the fuel tank just aft of the voltage regulator. It lies horizontial, cross ways to the tractor. It is hard to get to and I guess the previous owners didn't want to mess with it. I dread spliting the tractor apart but if I have to I will but not until I have to. How hard is it to take the Hoe off of the tractor? I need to replace some of the hoses and I can't get a wrench on the fittings. I think I could change them easier with the hoe off. I suppose the Case mechanics have a special tool but I don't. Thanks

MickK at the top of the Case forum page under Post a Message is a Search Box type in 580ck and hit Go and it takes you to a different site for mostly 580ck's. Lots of good help from people like Eml, Chuck, Marc and many others.
