We have a 930 Comfort King with a 401 engine. I am not sure of the year but below the dash where the serial number is it has model 932 stamped there.

This old tractor just does not have quite enough grunt as I would like it to so is it easy up up the hp on these engines a bit. I believe it to be the same engine as fitted to the 970 and they put out a bit more hp when fitted to the 970.

If I try to get more hp out of it would it make the engine overheat easier. We currently have a lot of trouble keeping this tractor running cool. We have replaced the radiator, thermostats, radiator cap and water pump with little effect. Put a load on the motor and it will heat up. Take the load off and it will cool down.

See Ya

I pulls the 32 plate offsets in 3rd gear and the chisel plough the same....Now you can see why I would like more hp out of it....or do you think I should just think about getting a bigger tractor?????

These implements are usually pulled by a 1070(not ours) and it does it with ease...

Those tillage machines are way too big for Mr 930. I take it you are in 2nd gear,if not 1st? All the other hints people have gave ,are on the money. Looks to me that you need a 1370 or a 2290. Your 930 is a nice looking late !

By the look of the pictures, the 930 is already pulling a good load

One may try tweaking the timing a little,to see if your heat problem goes away. There used to be a Case dealer close to us that almost refused to sell 1030s. The dealer said he could get as much out of a 930 and it was not as hard on the heads. If the timing cools it down then you may be able to add a little fuel and a couple hundred rpms. Changing the timming will most likely effect the starting, could be good or bad.

Well Jeff freight might be a problem...It gets expensive to ship tractors 10 000 km's...I won't be selling it just yet...I just need a few more hp's out of it...The injector pump has no adjusting screws visible from the outside so I don't know how to do it...

Thanks for the info so far everyone.

The heads have been checked and while one was cracked it repaired OK. It does not blow any huge amounts of black smoke. It will blow a tiny bit under load.

I think it might just be easier to sell it and get a FWA 130hp tractor.

check your pulleys, i had ther same problem on a 4630 deere a few years back. it rurned out the pulleys were worn enough that they wouldnt grip right. i would start out on a summer day and it would take 2.5 to 3 hrs. and it would start to heat up, replaced everything but the pulleys. when i replaced the pulleys the problem was over. I have seen an over bore sleeve kit for these in a central tractor catlog. The over heating could be a blown head gasket or a cracked head. I have a 830ck, 930ck, and an 1030ck and they run as cool as cumbers under loads. Your injectors might need to be rebuilt along with the powercell. 970"s had direct injection and "bowl" pistons and totalty different heads. Dyno it, it should be around 85hp.

We had a similar problem an a DC gas, and it was a head problem. Check your radiator to see if you are getting any bubbles. If so it could be a bad gasket or crack.

It will be hard to awnser your question exactly. Yes the 970 is the same cubes but a better eng for makeing power. They are diffrent from the old powercell 930 engine. Yes you could turn yours up some but if you have a heating problem you sure will if you turn it up. How much smoke do you get under a hard pull. If you really get alot of black smoke it could already be turned up. I have had tractors on my dyno which were weak on power but smoked way to much. I have actualy turnen them down a little bit and gained more power because someone had turned it up to much and to much is worse than not enough. Also look at your air filter set up very close i have seen them plugged up in the upper part of the mesh screen. But look clean at the bottom. Hope this helps. Thad
