Some of you have asked me to keep you posted on how we are doing on this project. Here is a key component, the "transmission sliding shaft" . This shaft is hudge, it has 1&3/4 inch bearing carriers, we chose to exit the left side to avoid the belt pulley, we took the shaft and bored a 7/8 hole in it then tapped it with 1" threads, we did the same on the 1&1/2 dia. inch extension,(about 5 inches long) the threads are couter revoloution, so that in forward gears they tighten, (Left hand on 1/2 and right hand on the other). We then screw the two pieces together, weld as strongly as possible, and machine to fit. This gives us the driving point for the 4x4. We use #60 HD Roller chain for the drop box (should be strong enough because we are turning about 700 rpm at that point). One crucial fact is that the sliding gear shaft is rotating backwards from the axel, so we use the 90 degree transfer case (located in front of the drawbar hook on the belley of the tractor) to reverse rotation by moving the driven gear to the oposite side of the box. I know this can be confusing but it will work. I'll post a website with more pictures later.
