HELLO
I have always liked the Case 430.
I enjoy tractor rodeos (driving compitition). I was kicking around buying a 430 for the rodeo, but need to figure out what transmission would be best for me. If I remember right there is a shuttle, triple range, and a regular 4 speed. I am needing something with a reverse of 5 to 10 mph or so. What kind of speed will the triple range get in reverse? How about the slow races, are either one good for that. I have also heard that the later 430's are better, I would like to know why that is?
Also a tri cylce front end would not be out of the question. Would it be available in any of the transmission styles?
Any other 430 advice would be welcome!
Thanks

A shuttle trans. would give you the best selection of reverse speeds with a slightly faster reverse in in each of the 8 speeds. I couldn't find a speed chart, but I'm thinking the triple range might not offer any slower speeds than the dual range. You want a mid or late 60's year to get one with hydrasatic power steering. The hydrastatic [only on wide front ends] is much more maneuverable.

I would think the shuttle transmission would give you the fastest reverse speeds. The 300 with a triple range transmission lists reverse speeds as 1.8, 3.1, and 5.1 mph in the different ranges. I would guess the 430 to be close to that.
