VAC gear grinding

Guys,

Posted once b-4 with this problem, but don't know that I got a definitive answer. Will try again for some sage wisdom. My 49 Vac won't shift without grinding until I use my hydraulics and lift my blade to the top. When it's at the top the noise in transmission stops and I can shift without grinding gears with clutch released. I can also shift on-the-go from second to third, for example, without grinding gears. It's a nuisance blading snow, because I have to lift the blade to the top b-fore I can shift from reverse to forward gear and vice-versa. Given these "symptoms", can anyone pin-point the problem for me and a possible remedy. I think the hydraulics on it is the Kingston system. Any help would be appreciated.

Start at the basics. Have you checked the fluid level yet? With the implement up you change the rake of the tractor moving fluid from the differential to the transmission (same casing). The hydraulics should have nothing to do with the gears as it is a separate system.

Checked the fluid level and it is down about an inch or so. I will add up to plug as manual says and try it. It is puzzling to me if there is no connection, as is the case on these tractors w/o Eagle hitch, why one affects the other. Sometimes I can shift from reverse into second, for example, with no grinding, but never from second into reverse. It may indeed have something to do with the rate (assume you meant rate) of flow. My manual says it should have SAE 90 and it makes no difference whether winter or summer, the problem is the same. If adding a little grease solves the problem, I will be pleasantly surprised. If not, what should be my next step?
