Well, its winter again and time to renew my efforts to identify old Case dealers. If any of you readers would be so kind to share your knowledge of names and locations, I would greatly appreciate it. Many Thanks to all who have sent information in the past. I hope to use the information gathered to write a book about Case dealer history.

I have a friend who worked for Case in the upper thumb of Michigan, we have talked many times about some of his dealers he called on. I will get a list from him, this in the late '60s-early '70s.
Here is another for you.
Culy Bros. Implement became Bousman Tractor in the 1950's until mid '60s, then sold to Melvin Craig, Craig Tractor & Implement, Farmland, Indiana. Melvin is our bus barn man(transportation director) at the school where I teach. I will get specific dates from him when he bought and then sold his business. He used to work for Case also as a traveling repairman.

Another dealer,1940's, South Side Elevator, Union City, Indiana.

Another, Lefeld Implement, Coldwater,OH, now a JD dealer, quit Case when they quit making combines. It was said before, he was #1 in combine sales in the state of OH several years (600-660 era). He needed combines to sell to compete in the area. Paul Lefeld was the owner, think he still alive.

Don:

There is an Case dealership in Coleman Wisconsin called Beaver Implement.

My dad had his 1945 Case SC rebuilt there back in the late 70's. I have gotten parts from there a few years back.

I inherited his tractor when he passed.

There was a picture of a DC with front wheel weights from Shotty, would like to know where I might find wheel weights for the SC.

Whiteside Implement Company, Reynolds, IL was in business until the mid or late 70's when it became a compay store, and was moved to Aledo, Il.

Dad bought a number of machines and equipment from Whiteside during the 60's and late 70's. The ones I remember are 220, 300, 430, 830(2 one gas slip-o-matic, one diesel Comfort King), 930 (2 one with a 1030 motor), 970 (2 one black Demonstrator, 1 later white version), 1070, 1270, 1370(2), 1570, 2470.

Dad started farming in the 50's with Farmalls, but switched to the Case line primarily because of this dealer. After it became a company store the he switched to Deere.

There was also a pedal tractor the dealer sent my way in the late 60's....

Two dealers in our area come to mind. Batie Implement at Webster, SD was in business from the 1940's for about 40 years. Lavern (Baldy) Batie was the owner, and just recently passed away. I wish I could locate his obituary, because he had an interesting and rewarding life. (One thing that I remember is that he started a livestock trucking business while in highschool...that he named: "Baldy's Bull Bus".)

The other dealer is Hurke's Implement in Watertown, SD. They started in the 1920's and are still in business, although they lost the Case dealership and went with Ford / NH. This is a third generation family business. If you're interested in Case dealership history they would have a lot to offer. Give them a call...Ask for Pat Hurkes.

When I was about 6 or 7 years old, my Grandpa bought a "48 VA from a neighbor. This was about 50 miles S.E. of Great falls, MT. I remember going with my Dad and Grandpa into Great Falls to get parts to get it running.

Here is some info I found at>Link

The>Link High Plains Heritage Center is located in the three-story International Harvester Building, a historical building on Second Street South, adjacent to the National Register"s Historic Railroad District and within the original town site of Great Falls. Rural and urban residents alike once called this street Machinery Row because of all the farm implement dealers located here. Any farmer or rancher needing new equipment could avail himself of the street"s "one stop" shopping.

Montana Implement Company in 1909 was the earliest dealership on the street. Between 1916 to 1919 Minneapolis Steel and Machinery, Montgomery Machinery, J.I. Case Threshing Machine, Advance Rumley Threshing Machine, and Nichols and Olson Farm Implements opened storefronts on the street. By 1928, Electric Motor Service, Fairbanks Morse Scales, Midland Implement, H. Earl Clack Wholesale Gas, and International Harvester Company had joined the scene. Later such businesses as Caterpillar and John Deere appeared.

I wasn't here when you stopped some time ago and I don't know how much dad got to tell you. So this might be repetition, but this is what I know in Northeast Wi... Fence...Lachapelle equip... lasted only a few years in the late '50's. Grandpa was summoned by CASE to haul this dealers equipment back to his shop after they rubbed them out. Marinette / Peshtigo....Kempf Imp...Late 50's to early 60's Brookside...John Zima...This guy lasted probably 20 years, the 50's and 60's. Suring...Schuettpelz's....not so sure, but they stuck around a while and I still do business with their heirs. For sure all the 50's Lena...Name might have been Mathy, but the only thing I know about this dealership is that grandpa bought the dealership eagle in 1951 at their auction for $12.50. I think those eagles were supposed to be purchased back by Case under contract if a dealer quit. Let them try now! That's all I recall for now. By the way, Barneveld Imp was purchased about 3 years ago by Ritchie Bros at Cobb, Wi. Regards. JR Beaver Machine, Inc. Coleman, Wi

Springfield,Illinois. Grieme Bros. were in business from sometime in the 30's until the middle 90's. My dad bought a new RC in "38 or '39. My uncle had a L,CC,RC,22" Thresher, later an A6 combine and after that a couple SP combines. Almost all of his equipment came from Griemes. They also picked up the MM dealership in the early 50's. I was born and grew up near Springfield, now live in East Tenn.

Flemington, New Jersey. Poniatowski Brothers Equipment. Took over from someone else around 1950, sold Case ag equipment until 1981. They added Hesston, Brillion and Case construction over the years. Dealership continued to sell Case construction until 1992 when they sold business to Powerco, Inc.

Just got off the phone with my dad in Manitoba and his cousin in Salmon Arm, BC who is the son of my uncle who had the dealership.

It started out as a joint dealership of Case and Studebaker in about 1954 called Austin Motors in Austin Manitoba. My uncle, Gordon Hay managed the farm equipment and his partner managed the automotive side of things. In the late 50's they split and my Uncle then started GM Hay Sales and Service, still in Austin, MB. He had the dealership up until 1972, then moved to Vancouver, BC and semi retirement. The dealership was closed when Gord moved away.

My dads cousin also mentioned that the dealer at the time in Dunrea, Manitoba was Dick Rondeau. There was also a dealership in Brandon, Manitoba and in Portage La Prairie Manitoba. I know my family dealt with the dealership in Portage from 72 onward for many many years. He did not recall any other information than that. Hope this helps in your search.

No one that we talked to could remember them as a Case dealer, but that isn't surprising as it was at least 50 years ago. I sure would appreciate the district saleman's input. Thanks again, Don

Hossack Imp. of Sidney, NE. My father bought new LA in 1948 from him. I can't say for sure how long he was in bus. but I know he had it a few years before 1948 and he had it until Alvin Miller and Harold O'Conner bought it in about 1957 or 8. Dad and I bought a new 1960 940 Lp from what Alvin and Horold called Miller Imp. They were in bus from than to about 1975. I bought a used 1966 930 diesel Ck from them in 1970. When they (Miller Imp.) went out of bus. we lost our case dealer in Sidney. WE had to go to Horizions West in Scottsbluff NE. I bought a new 2390 from them in 1980. Since 1999 or there abouts Horizions West has had a a dealership also in Sidney. I bought a 1994 9230 from them in 2003. Ps someone stole my handle Jim P

No they aren,t. The Case dealership was awarded to the local I.H. dealership during the merger. Spencers sold Kubotas and Cub Cadets for several years until they sold the buisness. By the way, I have a 48'DC that was bought new by August Ruf in 1948. Mr. Spencer told me that it was the first DC sold in Limestone County after the war.

Yes I remember Taylor Imp, I also remember right where the store was. I was through Algona just last month & didnt even try to see if it is still there or not , if memory still works I think his name is/was Rex. He also sold Behlen grain bins & he must have sold a LOT of them, almost every farm for miles around has them yet today. The ministers name doesnt register, but I wonder who his Dad is, maybe I know who that would be..... .Where are you located Don? I'm near Webster City Iowa now but I was in Humboldt most of my life.

A Case Dealership;

I grew up near Escanaba, Mich. in the Upper Peninsula and long admired the Case Tractor line.
Mostly the smaller tractor lines were in our rural area.
The only dealership I knew of was in Stephenson, Michigan about 15 miles north of Menominee, Mich.
Don't recall the name of the business, but it was fairly close the the Michigan State Police post.

There was a Case dealer just west of Escanaba in the late 60's, early 70's called Farmsite Implement. Lou Larson was the owner, I believe. The JD dealer in Nadeau was originally a Case dealer until 1967, then Oliver for about 10 years, then John Deere. I had heard there might have been a Case dealer in Stephenson, but only a rumor. Thank you very much for comfirming it. Don

Roger,
I am from Sturgeon Bay, WI. About 45 miles NE of Green Bay out on the peninsula that sticks into Lake Michigan. Our Local Case dealer was 2 miles away, a small cattle/horse/feed/machinery/real estate jockey who drove a pink Cadillac and chewed cigars constantly. He had a bad reputation. I will check on our ministers Dad's name, I know he passed on some time ago. Do you happen to know of any other Case dealers in that area? I know there was one in Ft Dodge, Ottosen, Kanawha, and Belmond. Also, Mathers in Laurens. There were more as there was a Case dealer every 7-10 miles in the 50's. Don

Don, I personally don't remember the Case dealer or dealers being in Fort Dodge except during the 70 series era when they were north of the jct of Hwy 169 & Hwy 7, that building is still there. As far as Ottosen, Kanawha or Laurens, I dont remember those at all, I do remember one in Belmond during the 70 series era again, but not sure about the 30 series. I was 10 when the 30 series ended, so I didn't have a chance to see a lot of dealerships then. One I thought of lately is Don Jensen in Millington Michigan, I dont know if they are still there or not but when Dad was delivering gooseneck trailers back in the 70's I remember going to Jensen's. I will have to get all of my literature out & look on the backs to see what dealers names are there, I know there are a lot from Canada.....Roger

My uncle (dad's uncle really) was a Case dealer in the late 60's in Austin, Manitoba, Canada. A very small town, about 300 people in an area that is still predominently agriculture based. This was of course back in the days when a small town and lots of small farms could support a dealer. Unfortunately my uncle passed away in 83. And my Aunt also passed away a few years ago. My dad, retired grain farmer, may be able to get me more information. anything specific you want?

Tim
