I had a unique opportunity, was one of 105 out of nearly 11,000 applicants that were drawn for a special limited entry buffallo hunt in northeastern British Columbia. Dec 16/04, first day of my tag I dropped a good sized bull at noon. Only trouble was, it was about a mile in and 1000 feet up on a mountain. It took another two days to pack all the meat out, but well worth it. Two hours just to get the quad and gear up the mountain, but then it was too steep for the first 1/4 mile down to use the quad and skimmer, so a hiking we will go! My partner, older gent,I doubled him in 7 miles on the quad (took an hour), took him two more hours to hike up the mountain. He is diabetic and crippled up pretty bad with arthritis, but as you can see by the pic, he made it up the mountain and was fairly excited to do so. Probably his last real big hunting trip he will ever make, but he had a blast!

Or you could have used a Case UNIMOG [class 6 truck]. Case marketed UNIMOG for a few years in the 1980's. Check out unimog DOT com. if you never seen one.

I used a .338 Winchester Sako with 250 grain High Velocity shells that a good friend custom loaded for me. First shot was from 200 yards, slightly uphill and through some spindly poplar trees 3-4 ft high. His tail went up and he bellared and went over the ridge. 10 minutes of hard hiking across a gulley brought me over to within 20 yards of him. Binoculars up, no movement, no breath signs, figured wow, down and done in one shot :o) Got within 20 feet and he jumped up on his front legs and tried to charge me, I backpedaled fast on some steep mountainside with the rifle up. He laid back down so I put another in his neck (did not want to mess up the horns) then watched a few minutes, one leg was still moving so given my last approach I said screw it and put one in his head to be safe. that one did the job although was probably not neccessary.

At that point the fun was over, worked pretty hard for the next two days. Picked the meat up from the butchers yesterday and of course had a roast last night. All I can say is mmmm dam thats good! Mrs likes it also so that is an added bonus. Unfortunately due to warm temps and the time involved getting the meat out we lost about 200 pounds off the front, but still ended up with 400 pounds of excellent meat.

Once in a lifetime hunt, but if I ever get the chance I would jump at going again!

Looking way down, trail is near the river at the top left of the pic. Terrain where the animal lays is steep enough to make standing difficult.

Actually the tag was not bad, $8 for the limited entry application, and $75 for the tag. Now as far as costs..... ..new rifle, between us $600 worth of fuel, cabin $240, the list goes on as my mrs keeps reminding me ;o)

Don't forget the head or are you not going to have it mounted? That way she can remind you for the next 40 years, nice bull though I have to get up there some day.
