I have a case 3 -16 bottom plow that was purchased by my father about 1955-56 along with a DC-3 1952 case tractor. The plow has the upside down u-shaped lower hitch bar with the hitch pins facing inward. The upper top link bracket hooks to the mainframe along another upside-down u-shaped brace and has two clamps that allow you to reset the angle of the plow. The plow also has a large spring and some type of torsion bar under the mainframe ,below the eagle hitch. The backside of the wings on the plow are green in color. the tailwheel is creme in color. My local case dealer has no info on this plow. Can anyone help me in determining a model # , date of manufacture, correct color sceme, and any other helpful info? Also ,a possible owners manual and parts availability? BG

So THATs what I have in reply to BG in NC , 01-01-2005 10:23:29
Thanks for the post. This is the plow I have from my Grandfather as well. He bought this plow and his (mine now) 300 round nose. I see on the posted picture, there is a part on top that has CASE on it. Any idea what that is, since my 2 bottom does not have that part. My hitch appears to differ sightly.

Thanks again for this thread.

BG, From your description it sounds like a BER series plow. I think the earlier ones had the tail wheel painted green and the wheel painted desert sunset came about when the 300 and 400 round nose hit the market. I had one that came with a 53 DC when we bought it new , and I have a later one . Early one had pointed shares and newer one has blade type. I hope I got you a picture posted .

George, The pics look like my plow. I never knew that the hitch could be removed from the plow frame until now. My father never removed his , nor have I ,even though the plow still gets used every season. Thanks, BG

I have a Case 3 bottom mounted plow that has the same hitch and I got it from an auction of a guy whose dad bought it and a DC new in 1953. I did not realize it until it was too late that the DC although rough was on the auction too. Wish I could have kept them together.

I always assumed it was a plow that was meant to 'breakaway' when it hit something solid like a root or a rock.

Your assumption is correct. We had this plow also that was pulled by our SC. The break away was unique to Case then and was to keep from damaging plow or tractor parts if something imobile (stump, rock, etc.) was hit.
