CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT OIL GOES IN THE TRANSMISSION ON A CASE 940 AND WHERE IN THE HECK TO CHECK THE LEVEL. I'VE LOOKED FOR 2 WEEKS AND HAVEN'T FOUNG WHERE TO CHECK IT. I DRAINED 15 GALLONS OF OIL OUT OF IT. IT SMELLED LIKE 80W90 REAREND OIL BUT I REALLY DOUBT THAT'S WHAT SHOULD BE IN IT. I ALSO NEED SPEEDOMETER FOR IT. 930 SHOULD BE THE SAME TRACTOR I THINK. IT HAS THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION.

I drained out the tch in my 1966 930 when it had 3000 hrs.in 1973 and put in 80/90, have not drained it out since and now have 8300 hr. with no problems. Trans. has never been opened up. and I have pulled 15 ft. oneways and 20 ft. field culivators with 20 rodweeders behind.

Larry to check the level, look on the right side of the pto housing, ahead of the hydraulic filter, you are looking for a 1/8 pipe plug, it should have a square head. To fill the transmission look for a small door in the platform floor just ahead of the pto & hand clutch levers (if your tractor has either one of these) open the door & you will find a breather that will unscrew from the top of the transmission housing, I think the breather is screwed into a bigger plug, but I cant remember. I've got a 6 speed LP Gas model & had the rear end apart 4 years ago to replace a drive chain & the chain that runs the hydraulic pump.

HEY THANKS ALOT FOR THE ADVICE. I CLEANED SOME DIRT AND GREASE OFF THE HOUSING ON THE RIGHT SIDE, RIGHT WHERE THE PTO HOUSING BOLTS TO THE DIFFERENTIAL AND FOUND A 1/4 INCH PIPE PLUG WITH A SQUARE HEAD. I BET THAT"S IT.

Thanks alot for all the responses to my question. I've pulled that breather out at the top but don't see how to check it yet. Did I understand you right that it calls for tractor hydraulic oil? I also have a Ford 5000 and it just has tractor hydraulic fluid in it. I usually get it at Oreily auto part store. It's pretty hard to get into some gears, i thought it might help to use thinner oil. It won't even go into 5th and 6th.

If it is a 6 speed it should have 85/140 gear oil in it. Comfortking 8 speed takes tch

Uh Roy, a 930 does NOT take 85/140 in the transmission, the only place on a 6 speed that uses 85/140 is the steering gear housing.

Larry, use TCH or maybe Hy Tran ultra, even a universal trans, hydraulic oil from someone like NAPA would work. DO NOT use 85/140.

You have a operator manual? Does it say how to check the transmission level? Or do you just put that amount in it and you can't check it? Thanks alot man. Larry p.s. i've got to get rid of this tractor soon, the parts are just too scarce. pulls really good though, i'll miss it

The trans oil dip stick should be at the back of the tractor left of the hydraulic pump. It has an air breather type cap (pull off - no threads). If it hasn't been removed in a while it could be a bit stiff.

I also am having a little trouble finding parts for my 69 930. I need a replacement fuel tank as the metal one is rusted pretty bad and even acid treated I can't seem to get clean fuel out of it. I would like to replace with a plastic tank. Any manufacturers down there make plastic versions of the original metal tanks?

Try "The Used Parts Ranch" in Ponoka, Alberta Canada - phone (403) 783-6765 or 783-6623. I haven't ordered parts from them in about three years but was able to get a very good used tachometer for my 930 at that time.

To check the trans. oil, there is a plug to the left and down a little from the pto shaft, looks like a crankcase drain plug. I am still looking for an owners manual for mine so don't know what oil to use. Good Luck

You don't check the transmission back by the pto. That's where you fill and check the pto housing and hydraulics. I filled it up before I drained the Transmission and it didn't go down any.
