I have a 71 Case 580 CK with 188D and cast oil pan. I need to rebuild the engine. I have removed all bolts from the oil pan, but can get it to drop. Looks like the last guy used RTV silicone to seal it. It is stuck like it is glued on and there is no place I can see to pry or otherwise get the thing loose. Any ideas, chemicals, leverage points, tools???

You had better check again to see if all bolts are out. I have been their, done that.

It should say that I cannot (can't) get the oil pan off in my original question. Sorry about that.

You can tap around on the pan with a hammer were the bolts held it on or you can hammer a chisel between the block and the pan to get it off.

Re: Cast Iron Oil Pan Removal - Got it! thanks in reply to bub , 12-13-2004 18:20:06
I got the pan off, used a stiff putty knife that I sharpened enough to slide in and break the seal. Thanks for all the comments.
