I just had a quick question on the tires and wheels on my LA? (it well be a while befor I need any but was just curious). The rear rims on my tractor have been widened out four inches, but it still has the origional 15-30 tires on it. The tires are rotted out but it looked like someone had to bulge the sidewalls out with the tube or something like this to make them bead up on the widened rims. This makes me wonder if somebody widened out the rims and then found out bigger tires were not available. In someways I like the idea of putting bigger tires on because it makes the tractor look more aggrasive, but thats not origional either. Does anybody know are tires available to fit a rim that is 4inch wider then stock? What size would they be and also would it be a commen size on some newer piece of equipment?

On your wide rims, 18.4-30 tires would fit and they are fairly common. The original 15-30's are too small in reality. Case had the habit of small tires on its big standards. I wonder if they were already high priced and they wanted to keep the selling price down by using smaller tires. Our LA and 500 just spin when pulling a disk.

If the person did a nice job of widening the rims I would paint them up and use them. I like original too, but the LA cuuld use more tire. Within reason, bigger is always better, looks and performance. No secret it's not original but that will only matter to the true purist, and they often tend to take it too far. My opinion!

Hi CK,
Can't tell you the answer to that question. Call one of your good local tire folks & they can look at all the brands.
I do know that the 15-30 is old fashioned & has been renumbered for some reason & is now 18.4-30. We manufacture a piece of equipment at work called a Reclaimer(Cat) & it has LA size tires on it. The tires are for a wider rim though & these tires say Firestone 18.4-30 on 16" Rim on the side. These may work better for your wide rims. They have an R1 rating & are called Traction Field & Road. I've been meaning to check with Purchasing & see what they cost cause I need new rear tires also on my LA & these are really sharp looking.
Like your pictures!

La's came with either 14-30 or 15-30 which are now 16.9 and 18.4. The bigger ones look and work much better. Many times people that were working them - which was what they liked, would widen the rims and it places the tread flatter on the ground. I have a MH 95 that has 18.4-34's that has a 4 or 5 inch expansion strip. It does give more traction!
