Cliff, It is a regulator, and an oddball one at that. You should be able to get it, or order it, at any generator rebuilders you have in town. They are expensive though. If you can't find one, email me and and I'll order you one. JSTPA

I would also like to find a source for an oem style regulator for my 53SC. The local generator shop installed a cutout relay on my gen and it seems to be overchargeing. Apperantly 6V saddle mount neg. ground regulators are not easy to come by. I'm considering switching to pos. ground as those seam to be more available.

More than likely it's a cut out relay instead of a regulator. Some of the generator rebuilders offer a cut out replacement but it won't look original. It is possible to hide the new relay somewhere and run the wires to it and leave the non working one on the generator to look original.

It came from the factory with a cut out relay and a negative ground system. There was a resistor mounted under the dash to help prevent over charging. I got rid of the relay and put voltage regulators on my SC's keeping the same generator. Sounds like someone has done the same thing to your tractor. Voltage regulators are available for your generator, some regulators are labeled as to whether they are for neg. ground systems or pos. ground systems.
