Tractor has sat idle for last 20 years. Starter will not engage. Solinoid mounted on starter has 5 terminals, 2 to the starter motor,1 to the battery with a solid bar jumper to adjacent terminal and 1 male spade terminal. How do I trouble shoot? This is a David Brown 1410 with Lucas parts.

Have you had the starter off? If it has been sitting for 20 years, the starter bendix could be rusted to the shaft.

Micheal,
What you have is a lucas starter with a 2 stage solenoid. To test it, make sure you have juice on the male spade terminal with the switch in the start position, If you do and the solenoid clicks check each of the leads going to the starter for juice, you should get juice in both, if you don't the solenoid is bad if you do the starter is bad. this is assuming you have good ground to the starter, and good juice on the solenoids battery wire. That whole setup is poor in my opinion, one of the stages of the solenoid goes bad and instead of just needing a solenoid, you might also need a set of fields. There are after market starters available for alot of the lucas starters that do away with the 2 stage stuff. hope this helps , jstpa

There is a reason for the name...
