I just got back from a weekend vaction to Ca with my dad. On the way to CA we briffly stoped at a old tractor dealer. They had an LA that ran on LP gas and it also had factory hydolics. I did not get much time to look at it. I did grab the crank and try to turn it and it appered stuck. The dealer was closed but I thought I might get in tuch with them about maybe seeing what they wanted for the tractor. I was also wondering if an LP LA with hydrolics is rare? Thanks

Hi Kid,
Did you get the grill & screen off ebay? Just curious. Bids on stuff like that are hard to win sometimes. One trick to ebay if you really want something is to wait till near the end so that you have a better idea of what the big is at. Then you can more accurately put in a bid if you want. This also doesn't give much time for too many other people to bid, if any.
Buying the entire LP tractor for parts would probably be cheaper than Ebay:).
Good luck!
Steve

And adding to Robert"s post, even if the rest of the tractor is junk, the head is higher compression than a standard gas head. Putting that on your gas LA will be a bonus in power.

If you can get it cheap enough, it may be worth the investment for, if nothing else, parts.

Brian,
Did you get the head number off the LP LA???. Just because it's LP doesn't mean that it has a LP head on it. There were lot of conversions done that didn't get the LP. If it is a factory LP then yes it should have the LP head.

There are quite a few later LAs that are propane and have hydraulics. The propane could have been factory original, or converted later using a factory kit. The tough part is that the propane equipment they used was manufactured by Ensign, and Ensign is no longer around. Parts are difficult or impossible to find. Since the operation of the propane system depends on diaphrams and other soft parts, this can be a real problem. The good part is that with a carburetor, gas tank, and some small parts, you can convert to gasoline. If the price is good and you like it, go for it. The propane equipment may actually work, can't tell until you try it.

Thanks for the help guys. Yes I did get grill. As far as the LA LP for parts Idea goes I like the idea but I will have to talk to the dealer. I got to thinking later there was an unrestored Case L sitting next to it and it had a tag on it that said $2500 so I dont know what they want for the LA $2500 buck is to much for a parts tractor in my book.

La case with hydraulic and pto is common, I have two 1948 LP tractors that have factory conversions. One has single hydralics the other has dual hydralics which is not that common. Case parts are cheaper than some of the other brands and fairly easy to come by except a good uncracked exhaust manifold. I have quite a few LA patrs left over if you need something.
