Does anyone know of a solvent that will loosen stuck piston rings on aluminum pistons? I have a set of good looking pistons for an SC I would like to save and use again.

I usually use oven cleaner and throw them in the oven for 30min at 200" or so. make sure they are clean or the wife gets mad

if the solvent doesn't work try gently heating the rings with a propane torch. the steal expands at a different rate than the aluminum, breaking them loose. you have to be very careful not to over heat the rings if you want to save them. i have used this metod before and it worked on 3 out of 4 of the pistons.

Have you tried oven cleaner?
Works well for breaking up carbon deposits
Good Luck
