Well after much work (it was fun work though) I got my LA home and behind the shop and ready for the pressure washer tommorw. I got out to the tractor about 9:30 and finally got it up to the house about five this evening. I was by myself this time (my younger brother was in school) I was after much straining able to get the rear tire up to the rear hub and after much more work get it on. Then I begain to dig the front out block it up and get the front tires on. Sombody has removed the crank and grill and put a hydrolic pump, reservoir, and home weights (made from railroad iron) on the front I was going to lift the front with the thee point on our 4630 John Deere but decided againt it after reading one of the follow ups that said the bottom casting is easily brocken. As for a king pin and caps, one of the steering axles from the junked sp12 combine was alreay tourched off and laying nearby. It turned out that the caps and the king pin were the same size so I robbed them. I could not get the pin in because the hole was too corroded but I was able to use a smaller king pin that we had laying arond the shop. It was too loose but with the caps it worked ok. Now I was ready to see if the old girl would move. I hooked up the John Deere and out she came. It is kind of fun watching something move that has not moved in at least 20 and more like 30 years! I towed it down the hill to the creek bank road that goes all the way to are farm. (about a mile away). By the time I got to the creek road the front tires had basicly desentagrated and the right rear was squirting out calcium on every revolution. I determind that the fronts would not make it home so I hooked a chain around the front axle and the three point on the tractor. And lifted up this worked good so I put the tractor in 2nd and creeped home at about 2 miles per hour. Our house and shop are at the top of a hill and all the way up the hill I was worried something would come loose and the tractor would go flying backwords into the creek. But right about dusk I rolled into the yard! I had a lot of fun and am ready to start work on the tractor. I did take several pictures but not with a digital camara. We do have a scanner so once I get the film developed and figure out how to use the scanner I will try and get some pictures posted. Thanks agian for all the help you guys give me This is really cool to be able to talk with tractor loverers all over the US!

I've spent many an hour operating an LA Case pulling a one-way disk plow.

No one in the family cared for the left hand clutch, so I being left handed usually got stuck on it.

At the time our other tractor was a "GTB" Minneapolis-Moline on gasoline.

Though comparable in work ability the Case burned about 10 more gallons of gas in a days time.

I really enjoyed your description of "bringing 'er home." Be sure to keep a journal with lots of photos. Your friends will be amazed at your work, as well as your children when that time comes.

Just had to add my congratulations on getting the LA home. Your account of the trip home with it sounded very much like the stuff I do around this little farm here in New Hampshire. You are a kid after my own heart, except I'm not a kid anymore, And after you rebuild that LA, you won't be a kid either. I have four LA engines but just one LA tractor and I just love the simplicity and the power of the LAs. It's hard to kill 'em. Again, good luck and keep us posted about your progress, and yup, pictures would sure be nice.
