Well here is some good news. I got the LA! As it turns out my neibour works in at John Deere as a salesman. He just started working there a few months ago. We have JD combines so we are in there about every other day. I found out that my Dad has talked to my neibour seveal times while in JD. Dad and I had some parts to pick up so we just went in there and talked to him. I offered him fifty bucks for the tractor but he would not take it he said I could have it for free if I would haul it off. He even told me that I could have just about any of the rest of the junk sitting around his place! So I went home and begain the process of putting the tires back on the tractor. This is quite a challange! One drive tire was about 200 feet away on the ground downhill from the tractor. These tires are not light. I was after many attempts able to get up to it with our off road forklikt. (Eastern WA is a desert and very sandy) I got the tire as close as I could to the tractor but still had to roll it a good 25 foot up hill! After I dug all the sand out around the tractor and got it dug out I At least I found out that the front hubs turn and the rear is also free. The steering wheel is locked up so someone at one time removed the drag link from the gear box and removed the king pin on the left side steering knuckle at this point I can not find the king pin so I think will have to lift thee front end off the grond and tow it on the rear tires. This could be interesting. At this point I ran out of daylight, so tommorw is a nother day and I hope to have it in the shop by tommorw night!

The link below is to a story that you can read, if you wish. It has a few bad words in it that I don't like, other than that it is a good story.

Be careful as you pull and drag. That big sturdy hand crank is mounted to the thin lower radiator tank which is cast iron - easy to break. Also there should be a drain from the tank that hangs down, watch for it. If you can temporary something for the kingpin, it will make everything much easier.

The steering wheels usually freeze up in the column. Put penetrant in from the top of the shaft, also from the vent on the underside, and pump some grease into the fitting. Let all this soak, then rock the wheel back and forth, should come loose.

Good luck.

That's super! And depending on what else is in the pile, you may want to consider gathering as much of it as you can. It might make for good trading material in gathering parts for the LA.

There was an ad in the Photo Ads for someone who had a parts catalog for sale. It was priced kinda high, but it might be worth your investment.

And... you might want to buy one or two of those disposable cameras that you can have developed onto a CD-ROM. That way you can still send us pics here of your new prize, and updates on your progress. Plus, be sure to take a lot of pics when you are disassembling. It makes it much easier later when you are putting it back together.

Be sure to email me. I'll like to talk more with you about your new prize. ([email protected])

Hey combine kid where exactly are you located in Eastern Washington, where all the sand blows? Don't think I am too far from you, I am in North eastern OR, just couple miles south of the Columbia River.I am working on a 48 VAC right now.
Email me.. email address is uncovered

Good luck with getting it back to your place! Sound like it has been a bit of a challenge so far, but if you can get it off the front you'll be okay. Just remember, gettting it home is one of the best parts of the chase. Hope to hear from you tomorrow.
