Hi all,
Could this be a Black Knight? Or a pieced together 970? What do you think?

I currently have a 1971 870 Black Knight. The fenders are painted black, the fuel tank should be black and the grill is also black. The fenders should say demonstrator on them. The words 377 CUBES (WHAT EVER THE CUBIC INCH of the engine had, is on the side of the hood above the engine. We had a Black Knight 970 with cab that we bought from Case Power in Cedar Rapids Ia. in 1971. The word demonstrator is above the door on the cab tractors. It had 401 CUBES on the side of the hood. The Golden Demonstrator had a yellow grill and yellow fuel tank, and yellow fenders. The words AGRI KING were on the side of the hood. If it was a cab tractor it to was all yellow. One other thing is the center guide on booth model year tractor hoods will be yellow. I hope this will help you with the idenity of this Black Knight.

There was a Black Knight (1070 if I rememebr correctly) sitting at the former Case dealer Bobbitt Equipment in Stockton KS for about 3 years. It had no cab which I'm sure was an option--remember that cabs were just getting popular in the early 1970's. I was through Stockton the first week of OCtober and it had disappeared.
I think I remeber seeing another without a cab over South of Butte MT about 15 years ago.
I know of at least two Golden Harvesters out here in Montana at the present time, both still in use.

The very first year for demonstrators came with a yellow cab and the rest of the sheet metal black. They were known as Golden Knights. They had the steering wheel tilt on the dash. The second year of demonstrators were all black and some of them had the pedal tilt steering wheel. I have only seen Knights with cabs so if this is authentic, it would be rare.

That is more than likely a Golden Harvester. They had yellow grill screens and a yellow cab or fenders. They had decals on the sides of the fenders that matched the hood decals. This one doesnt show its had them on the fenders. I have had several Black Knights and some Golden Harvesters. I think the Black tractor was built after the other. But both were demonstrators. Hope this helps Thad

If I'm not mistaken all true Black Knights had a plaque with the dealers name on it some place on the tractor. Some guy may not have liked a cab and took it and the fenders off and replaced them with fenders from another tractor.

This has been talked about before here, not all of the black demonstrator tractors, regardless 1st or 2nd year, had a dealer plaque on them. That was an option to the dealer. If there was a plaque it was located in the area of driver mounting arena. Dale

What is the serial number what year? If I had to bet I would say it had a cab from the factory since the fenders are desert sand color someone has just changed it. How many hours doe it have?
