I do thank you all again for the help you all have given me. I just talked to my Dad this morning about the possibility of getting this LA. (I will be using his shop so even though I live here I thought I'd better get his ok!) He thought it sounded like a good idea and gave me the go ahaid. I had some time over lunch today so I went over to the tractor and took a closer look. If I had a digital camara I would post pictures but I dont. Thanks to Brian In Ohio I quickly found the serial # on the dash. 5225673LA Which I now understand means that it was made in 1948. I was just wondering if maybe some out there might have some information like were it was built and shipped or if it was rare, by using this #. Also what years were LA's produced? I thought I would go talk to the owner with in the next few days about purchasing the tractor. I really think that he might even give it to me for hauling it off. (He is my neibour and He and my Dad talk some but I dont know him well) I was just wondering if someone might have a few tips for hammering out a deal. One last question I had is moving the tractor. I know I will have to put the tires back on they are laying near by and the clips to hold them on are sitting on the battery tray. I was wondering if over time do these tractors tend to freeze up or can you useually put them in neutral and make the roll. I realize that this is all speculation and you would about have to be here to tell, but I just thought someone might have some input. Thanks so much for all the input and hopefully as I learn more I will be glad to turn this around and answer some of your questions too!

Combinekid...

If all of those parts are still with the tractor, that will make a GREAT pulling tractor, especially with it having a low gear.

Hope you get it. It sounds like a great project.

DCTom has all of the serial number information. If he doesn't reply to this string, then repost it again to his attention.

I've opened up my email. Email me direct, and I'll have some other information that might be of use to you.

I have brought in several LAs and have not seen one that would not roll. I have a 48 that weighs around 7100 lbs without weights or fluid, so a dead one can be a chore to pull up on a trailer. If you can get all the tires on it and holding air, that will help very much. If the tires will not hold air, especially the rears, it is best to use the bare rim without a tire.

LAs were introduced around 41, built through 52, when they were replaced by the 500. They were built in Racine, Wisconsin. There is a very nice guy that posts on this site that can get the shipping info on that tractor for you.

I think you have the right drift in offering to haul it off. From your description earlier, it would not sell for over $200 in my area, but that is only a long distance guess.
