VA PTO Remote lever

I use my '48 CASE VA to pull a 5' brush mower. After tearing out a PTO gear the first time I turned too sharp, I jury-rigged a rod down to the PTO lever for disengaging/reengaging the PTO on the turns so I didn't have to turn around and reach down and back off the back of the seat. I finally got around to fabricating a more permanent solution with some old garden tractor parts.

I have a lever mounted to some angle iron on the platform next to the seat on the left side that controls a rod that goes to the back. This controls a second rod going down to the short arm of a lever that is attached to a longer arm. That has a third rod going over to the original PTO lever.

The biggest challenge was I needed to turn about 3 inches of forward/back motion into about 12 inches of left/right motion, and I had approach the original PTO lever at the correct angle so it would push it all the way over to the right to engage and pull it back all the way back to the left to disengage.

It is a totally bolt-up rig to the tractor so it can be removed, and it works great.

E-mail me if you want some pictures.

How did turning too short tear out the PTO gear? I run a 60" belly finish mower with my VAC and Have had no problems. The only thing I'd add is a PTO overrun clutch but I've gotten pretty good at slipping it out of gear if I have to stop short.

Looks like the setup works pretty good for you tho.

The mower I have is pulled with the drawbar, runs on a pair of tires on the rear and swings on the turns. The angle of the u-joints got to be more then the drive could handle.

A belly mower is always in line with the tractor.
