You should check your push rods to see if they are bent. Spin them with your fingers.

Lets see if I can get measurements for you.
Tube diameter is 1/4" (made mine out of copper tubing), length above base is 3 13/16",and from bottom inside filter adapter base is 4 3/4". Hole out of the top is 7/64" (for this I penned the top end of tubing with hammer to make decrease the size of hole out the top of the 1/4 inch copper tubing). Hole through the side of tube is 1/4 inch from the top and 3/32" in diameter, drilled straight through the tubing

Overall length of tube is 4 5/16, that is including depth inserted into the base. I have an extra filter base pulled my stem(tube) out of base and measured it for you.

Check to make sure the tube didn't stick in the old filter.

Thanks All I will first look at my local salvage yard, then I will make my own,

I still can't believe someone would take the tube out and leave the dowel in the filter..

If you make your own, you will probably have to take a file and some sandpaper to the outside of the copper tubing so it will fit into the base. You need a snug fit. This is funny (not to you of course) I wonder if the previous owner pulled the old metal tube out so he could put the wooden one in. :)

don't need to do anything to 1/4 copper tubing fits great just like it is. Have made 2 stems so far. One for my VAC 14 and one for an Allis Chalmers C. Some one did the same thing to my Vac, pulled out the stem and put dowel in filter.

You can make a new tube out of copper tubing (check archives some one posted the size holes at the top of the tube. or go to a junk yard...also same filter unit was used on many later model cases
