I grew up with a Case SC (single front wheel, foot clutch) and a Case Diesel 830 wide front end case-o-matic Comfort King 4 speed with hi and lo. Both had PTO and three point hitches. But I never heard the term Eagle hitch untill I was browsing a few tractor sites today. Can any one describe it to me.

Well what do you know.... Our SC is equiped with an eagle hitch! I always called it a three point hitch. We use this tractor to cultivate corn and "mark out" small grains. (Cutting small furrows for flood irrigation.) Also use it to bale and rake hay. It was used to mow hay before we got a mower conditioner then we used the 830 to pull that. Dad bought it brand new but he can't remember what year. He's 88 years old now. Tractor is older than me(47). Tractor still runs well. What a great forum!

Thanks

Ferguson patented the three point hitch which was shared with Ford they had a falling out ..but that is another story...anyway in teh 40/50s you couldn't put a three point on a tractor without paying royalties to Ferguson/Ford. Case and the others didn't want to do that so came up with their own systems. In the end 3 point won out and since I believe the patent had expired the other manufactures switches over, hence later Cases had three point and eagle hitches disappeared. Also Case had different designs for eagle hitch claws/latches. SC/DC hitches are different from V series

Eagle hitch is the Case 3 point hitch. It has latches on the arms no balls and the arms do not swing just up and down.I have foot clutch eagle hitch SC, love it

The term 'Eagle Claw Hitch' refers to the system of securing the mounted implement at the end of the bottom points on the three piont hitch. These so called 'Eagle Hitches' are only simple levers that pull up allow the operator to mount implements to the tractor with out leaving operators platform. The eagle 'claws' were so called because of the Old Abe Emblem of Case, (the eagle on top of the world) and they were an attempt to get around patent infringement accusations fron the Ford company mounting the Ferguson Hitch system.
