I have the opportunity to buy a Case 530 backhoe/loader with the 188 diesel engine for $3000. Only known problem is a knocking sound from the engine. The guy thinks he popped a hole in a piston because he was using some either to start it one day. Other than the knocking its in decent shape. Last time it was started was 2 months ago. Prior to that it had sat for about 5 years. It was parked back then because of the knocking.

Is it worth $3000?

Thanks

Brad

had one that sounded like that, drain the oil and look for metal. mine had bronze, which turned out to be a wrist pin bushing. Not a terribly hard or expensive fix

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at it after work today and keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks,

Brad
