What classes do you pull in? What kind of rpm do you get those 90HP? Just curious! How do you keep from breaking the chain drives?

I have a 51 dc, it has 4 1/16 low comp. pistons in it, a propane head and everything else is stock. it dynoes at 65 hp and I have 13.6x38 tires. I pull 5500, 6500, and 7500. it pulls best at 6500.

no problems from drivetrain

L.Lamp, I pull 4600, 5000, 5500 at STOCK RPM. I'm not saying this is a bullet proof set up by any means but it's working so far. The mains have been bored and spacers and incert bearings installed. The rods are still babbit bearings. My opion is the rods are the weak link in this motor. Pretty narrow at the top. This motor was built four years ago and last week is the first time the head and pan has been off since it's been built. For inspection purpose only not for repair. As for the 140 chains they'll take it.

I have talked to a number of people (farmers) who have owned DC's and some of them have broken chains, and crankshafts in their one and two year old factory stock tractors. What is going on that causes these problems. My guess is that the chains break because they are too loose. They probably try to climb on top of the small drive sprocket and are torn into. My pulling is done at factory stock. I try to have fun and not break anything. Thanks for your answers. I had no idea a DC could generate that much power. Good Luck DC Puller!!!!

L.Lamp, we also have a farm stock puller 52 DC. 4" bore, head shaved 70 thous, reworked carb, and electronic ignition. I honed and re-rung it this spring and had the head done, shaved, new valves and guides. 53hp on dyno and a lot of guts when at the end of the track. Pull 5500, 6000, and 6500. 16 first place wins with our club this season. DCPULLER

Where is a source for non-stock oversize liners/pistons that will fit the D series engines? (your source)

radioguy, sorry so late to respond, been very busy. What I had done to my motor was bore the block to accept the sleeves, I belive they are DT 466.When block was bored left a lip on bottom of block for sleeve to sit on. Sleeves don't go into crankcase like originals. Put hard block up to bottom of water pump to seal it up and add strength. Pistons are custom Ross racing pistons with bushings installed on the pins. The biggest problem is water ciculation due to the fact the stock water pump moes .25 gal. per minute. This motor makes lots of heat FAST. I installed a 20gpm water pump from Jegs and electric fan and this helped alot. Cooling capacity is reduced due to the sleeves and hard block. I use water and WETTER WATER instead of anti freeze to disipate the heat. Cam is Berry grind with stock duration and the heel ground for more lift and advanced 2 degrees. The head has a pile of work done to it, BIG valves and lots of porting. 1 1/2" custom tube intake and M/S carb from a 1800 Oliver. This motor is capable of running high rpm if desired. As people have said it depends how much money you want to spend. I've got $2400 in my head, copper gasket and intake alone! just to give you an idea. DCPULLER

I can understand how the drive chains hold, but I would like to know how he keeps the rear main from blowing out the bottom.
