CASE 580 CK Fuel Problem???

Recently purchased a Case 580 CK that had a recent rebuild on the engine. It runs fine until any sort of real load is put on it, then it just bogs down and tries to stall. The mechanical governer? seems to be trying to run up the throttle under load, but with little effect. I replaced the fuel filter, and this helped a little. One thing that I noticed is that it seems that the gas is gravity fed to the carb, is this normal or are these supposed to have fuel pumps?

I also checked the compression, it showed at around 130 on 1 and 4 and 110 on 2 and 3, this seems to be sufficient. I have not figured out where to check the timing on this yet, any hints on where the timing marks are? Supposedly it is to be set at 4 degrees BTDC.

Any help or hints appreciated.

Popped open the cover, found the pin to line up the timing. One problem, transmission fluid for the hydraulic clutch sloshes around so much that you can't see the timing marks through it.

I worry about damage to the clutch if I were to drain the fluid and run it to set the timing. Any suggestions to remedy this problem?

Thanks

There is a cover that snaps on/off on the clutch housing near the starter. Pop off the cover and use a timing light to check the timing. Check the fuel flow in the line coming from the tank. Turn the gas off, remove the line at the carb, use a tin can to catch gas at the disconnected end, and turn the gas back on. If the gas flow is nearly the size of a small pencil, that's good. If it's good, you probably have rust or something plugging the main fuel jet in the carburetor. In that case, you'll need to remove the carburetor and disassemble it for a good cleaning.
