I have a 68 Case 680B backhoe and the electric fuel pump (not the infector pump) finally went. Over the last few months I've been tapping on it to keep the fuel system pressurized and it would start pumping for a little while and then quite. Now I am lucky to get 1 or 2 strokes out of it before it stops and the machine just will not stay running. A replacement from the dealer is $280 so I was woundering is there any reason why I can not install a low pressure universal automotive electric pump instead. My concern is not knowing the necessary pressure and flow rate. If any one has any insite into this, it would be much appreciated. My current thoughts are between 5 & 10 psi and 20 to 30 gph. I know the machine at full tilt only burns about 3/4 gph. Thanks for the help.

Just did that exact fix last week on my 780. Works good w/o any problems. 36 bucks too!

We have not had any problems running those injector pumps with electric fuel pumps.
