I am still working the bugs out of my SC. The steering has me baffled. When the Y shaped casting the tie rods bolt to in the center is centered, the steering arm by the steering box is not at the 12:00 position. As a result the tractor turns shorter to the left than the right as it hits one stopper sooner. I cannot see any reason for the off centeredness. The Y shaped casting does not appear bent and it is mounted with a key. The only splined connection in the system is where the steering arm hooks to the shaft coming out of the gearbox. The only thing to watch for there is that that arm be at straight up 12;00. The only way to solve the problem is to have one tie rod about 1 1/2 inches longer than the other. Surely it was not this way new. Anyone have this problem? Am I missing something? Thanks, Glenn F.

I think you have the chicken roost for a narrow front. The one for the AWF is a different length.

Both the narrow front and AWF drag links measure 67". One thing I am not sure of, and perhaps someone can help me: The top joint where the arm that wraps around the radiator attaches to the shaft which goes through the casting, is a keyed joint. The bottom one I never had apart. I had a machine shop rework that shaft. In order to do this, he had to remove the Y casting to put the shaft in the lathe. When I picked it up it was already reassembled. I assume it is a keyed joint like the top but I am not sure. If it is a splined joint the spline could be off. Anyone know? Thanks, Glenn F.

Glen, I think the steering gear is a whoel gear and the splined shaft will rotate 360 degrees with nothing hooked to it. It shoudn't make any difference where your at as the steering gear will just turn all the way around.

The shaft exiting the gearbox does turn 360 degrees. However there are stoppers that stop the arm which matches the spline. This arm which is approx. 1" long attaches to the drag link. The 1" arm has stoppers at the end of its travel for a right turn and a left turn. In order for the front wheels to turn equally to the right and left the 1" arm has to be centered between the stops. So the shaft can be mounted at any point on the splined shaft but MUST be at the 12:00 position. The Y/triangular shaped casting which is up by the front axel is off center when the wheels are straight and I cannot correct it and still keep the tie rods the same length. The right tie rod must be 1 and 1/2 inches shorter than the left one. There is something wrong. Glenn

Front Y piece shaft is twisted between the Y and where the top arm is keyed on.
